DRAWING IS ACTION
Art exhibition by Bureau Cofounder Andrea Battersby
"Drawing Is Action became a comforting mantra for me in producing these intimate pieces in my cramped but cherished studio. A kind of paralysis due to decades of emotionally wearing precarious access to workspace has informed these outpourings. Inspired by the GAS open call and created while finally facing the reality that time is up for my studio and the entire complex of active arts spaces at the historic Coffin Factory 89 - 109 Niagara St., Toronto, these drawings are symbolically priced equal to a months rent. With only a few months left, the real work is to offer positive outlooks and forecasts while standing in the disorienting present."

Time Travellers | The Art Of Tashi Norbu
July 21 - August 07

Tashi Norbu, an accomplished contemporary Tibetan artist based in Amsterdam, brings his powerful artwork to Toronto for the first time with TIME TRAVELLERS:THE ART OF TASHI NORBU art exhibit.
Tashi Norbu's artworks explore fantastical realms inhabited by diverse ancient religious symbols and pop culture icons. Courageously transcending boundaries to forge the new frontier of Contemporary Tibetan Art, Norbu reveals parallels between emerging Western scientific knowledge and ancient Buddhist Philosophy, while maintaining a vigilant voice of Tibet's suffering under occupation and cultural genocide.
This exhibition will feature 20 of Norbu’s works at Gallery 1313, right in the heart of “Little Tibet” in Parkdale, Toronto. There will also be off-site events: #LightForFreedom, a storytelling/live painting exploration of the Tibetan self-immolations, 108 BUDDHAS Painting Workshop For Kids and STREETWINDOWS, a Pop-up Interactive Public Art Installation connecting the Tibetan diaspora via modern technology.
Time Travellers: The Art Of Tashi Norbu art exhibition is presented by: Bureau Of Power And Light | Tashi Estates | JC | Tashi Norbu |

Tibet Truth Cards for "Glorious Tibet"

In partnership with Students For A Free Tibet Canada, Geoff Doner, co-founder of the Bureau, designed Tibet Truth Cards for a protest in Toronto Nov 4-8 2014 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and St Lawrence Centre For The Arts in Toronto, CAN.
Put on by the Chinese Government under the name 'Glorious Tibet' as part of "Canada China Tibet Culture Week", the event was held in Toronto, CAN, home to the largest Tibetan exile community in North America. There was absolutely no consent from the Tibetan Community and it was essentially a Chinese propaganda event white-washing the true state of oppression in Tibet. It depicted distorted and incomplete images of a land of happy Tibetans, further perpetuating the lie that all is 'Glorious' in Tibet. Yet, since 2009, over 130 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in response to the state-sponsored cultural genocide that is being carried out by the same government that put on this show.
500 Tibet Truth Cards were handed out at the TIFF Theatre and at the St Lawrence Centre For The Arts to attendees and passers-by.
